Sleepless in Babyland

The other day at 4 or maybe 5 am I was scrolling through instagram when a red dot popped up on my home screen, which meant a DM (direct message for the un-initiated) had just come in. I opened it to find a friend had pinged me a random funny video (or was it an informative video?). I quickly responded with a hi and that started a conversation with my fellow comrade in arms at the ungodly hour. She responded with “hello, fellow feeder”. All moms would empathise with this greeting.

Being a new mom is tough, atleast it has been for me the two times I have been a new mom. Even though I was mentally more prepared this time around as I am a second-time mom, but it still has been more crazy than normal. Taking care of a new born while taking care of the needs of a toddler has been taking tremendous mental energies.

But in all this, it helps to know that there are moms who are also staying up in the nights, who are also going through cluster feeding phases as me, who are recovering from Caesarian delivery and taking care of a new born, who are scrolling through social media when all they would want to actually do is snuggle into a blanket and sleep. That one “hello, fellow feeder” made me feel a little less lonely, a little less miserable and a little less incapable of being a new mom.

So, thank you friend.
